I apologize for posting this in 2 places...but I posted this earlier in the neurology category, but decided I should probably put in under anesthesia.

Next week we are planning to do an EEG and a brain MRI on a 2 year old under anesthesia.  I have done anesthesia for surgeries where SEP potentials were used (10 years ago), but have never done anesthesia for an EEG.  Don't they like you to aviod inhalational anesthesics and use a propofol drip?

Other questions I have are 1) the EEG tech heard that the infusion pump could interfere with the EEG and 2) the EEG tech wondered if having an endotrachial tube in place with the patient on a vent could interfere with the EEG, and 3) if I induce the kid in the OR with Sevo and then start an IV and convert to propofol, will that little bit of Sevo interfere with the EEG?

What I would like to do is to induce the kid in the OR with Sevo, start the IV, convert to propofol, get the EEG done in the OR, then transport the kid to MRI.  I appreciate any input anyone might have.

Will a propofol drip and an intubated/ventilated patient interfere with an EEG?
